Alexis Destoop Continues his Long-term Research into the North

Belgian photographer and video artist Alexis Destoop returned to the north to continue his research.  For this trip, Alexis focused on looking deeper into the borderlands and the complex story of the borders between Russia, Norway and Finland.

During his two-week journey, Alexis travelled between Nikel, Zapolyarny and Murmansk in Russia before visiting snow-covered Grense Jakobselv, Bygøynes on the Varanger fjord coast, mining operations at Sydvaranger Gruve and the border market town of Näätamö in Finland.  Alexis also witnessed and recorded the relaunching of a Russian trawler from the Kimek heavy repair hanger in Kirkenes.

Alexis will return to Kirkenes in three months times in order to continue his project that will result in a film.
