Velkommen til en presentasjon og samtale “Shadow communities” med forfatter og journalist Liza Alexandrova-Zorina.
Alexandrova-Zorina er russisk skribent som jobber i Svenska Dagbladet, hvor hun blant annet skriver om Russland, krigen i Ukraina og den post-sovjetiske verden. Hun er også forfatter av repotasjebøkene Imperiets barn (Children of the Empire, 2023) og den prisbelønte De livegnas land (The Land of the Serfs, 2025), som skildrer det post-sovjetiske parallellsamfunnet i Sverige. Samtalen vil dreie seg rundt hennes arbeid.

Samtalen er en del av prosjektet “Exploring Darkness” og nettverket Negotiating Darkness Artistic Research. I 2025 arrangerte Pikene på Broen en residency og workshop for kunstnere og skribenter om forholdet til mørket, hvor deltakerne utfordret oppfatningene av mørket som noe farlig, ukjent og negativt og utforsket mørkets mange lag gjennom tekst og øvelser.
Fredag 11.september åpnes en utstilling som viser det første arbeidet til deltakerne og nettverket. Plakatene kombinerer tekst og visuelt materiale og er laget i samarbeid med Mondo Books i Tromsø som en del av kunstfestivalen Open Out. Utstillingen vises på Sør-Varanger bibliotek.
Welcome to a presentation and conversation “Shadow communities” with writer and journalist Liza Alexandrova-Zorina.
Alexandrova-Zorina is a Russian writer working for Svenska Dagbladet, and is the author of the reportage books “Imperiets barn” (Children of the Empire, 2023) and the award-winning “De livegnas land” (The Land of the Serfs, 2025), which portray the post-Soviet parallel society in Sweden. In Svenska Dagbladet, she writes about, among other subjects, Russia, the war in Ukraine and the post-Soviet world. The conversation will circle around Liza´s work.
Attendance is free and open to all, and will be held in English.
The conversation is part of the project “Exploring Darkness” and the network Negotiating Darkness Artistic Research. In 2025, Pikene på Broen organized a residency and workshop for artists and writers about the relationship with darkness, where the participants challenged the perceptions of darkness as something dangerous, unknown and negative and explored the many layers of darkness through text and exercises.
On Friday, September 11, an exhibition will open showing the first work of the participants and the network. The posters combine text and visual material and are made in collaboration with Mondo Books in Tromsø as part of the Open Out art festival. The exhibition will be on display at Sør-Varanger Library.
