Seminar: Conversations in the North

June 9-10, Pikene på Broen and Troms and Finnmark County Council will host the seminar Backyard Residencies: Conversations in The North. The seminar in Kirkenes serves as a meeting place for artists, writers, publishers and art critics from the High North to continue the conversations on relevant issues in our region. The programme includes talks, presentations, a publication launch and artistic interventions. Parts of the programme will be available for digital attendance. Details on the programme and practicalities of the seminar you will find here: Official Programme Backyard Residencies_ Conversations in the North

The BACKYARD RESIDENCIES is inspired by a project with the same name, carried out in the West Balkans in 2006-2007. The questions such as «What do we know about our own backyard?», «What kind of facts and fictions may influence our own image of this geographical and cultural territory?» and «How to carry out a research project in our own neighborhood?» are the same questions we have been asking ourselves, that has inspired us to form our own «Backyard» collaboration in the northern regions of Europe.

The aim of the project is to support professional exchange in the region by encouraging residencies and other kinds of organizations to focus on regional collaborations, sustainable way of running residency projects and other activities, and development and dissemination of knowledge and work methods.

Backyard Residencies:Conversations in the North is organized by Troms and Finnmark County Council, hosted by Pikene på Broen, with financial support from BarentsKult, Nordic Culture Fund and Nordic Culture Point – Nordic-Baltic mobility programme. Parts of the programme is organized in collaboration with The Norwegian Barents Secretariat.

As part of the programme of seminar, we will host hhe launch of the Arctic Art Newspaper , edited by  Paavo Heinonen, (Oulu), Anastasia Patsey (St. Petersburg), Marion Bouvier (Tromsø) and a talk with the Pigeon Gram Collective and  Nina M. Schjønsby.
